Meeting on stockmarket under way

Stakeholders are in a meeting Sunday evening to discuss a proposed package to rejuvenate the country’s trouble-torn stockmarket.

The meeting began around 7:00pm at the capital’s National Economic Council with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

The meeting will hold discussions on bringing normalcy in the market and facilitating the affected investors to recover their losses.

The market stakeholders include chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission, president of Dhaka Stock Exchange, president of Chittagong Stock Exchange, governor of Bangladesh Bank, chairman of Pubali Bank, chairman of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, chairman of Standard Bank, president of Association of Banks, Bangladesh; chairman of Bangladesh Insurance Association and managing director of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters after a meeting at the Secretariat, the finance minister said on Sunday that the government is planning to provide incentive to stabilise the market.
